Honors were even at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday night, as the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles were unable to break the 18-18 tie.
The first half was a low-scoring affair, with just 11 points shared between the two teams. The Browns eventually pulled ahead in the second period of play, but Eagles quarterback Tanner McKee orchestrated a comeback late in the fourth quarter.
Unfortunately, it didn't take long for injuries to take center stage, as Philadelphia lost five players in relatively quick succession during the game.
Cornerback Zech McPhearson (ankle) was the first to go down, but he was followed by rookie edge defender Nolan Smith (shoulder) shortly after. Olamide Zaccheaus then left with what was reported to be a shoulder injury, but then things got even more serious, as wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland and interior defender Moro Ojomo both left the field on the cart having sustained injuries to the head/neck area.
Offensive spotlight: Browns wide receiver Austin Watkins put on a show Thursday night, reeling in seven of his eight catchable targets for 139 yards, one touchdown and five first downs. While he did drop one pass, five of his receptions went for a gain of 15 or more yards, and he went a perfect 2-for-2 on his contested targets.
Defensive spotlight: Veteran linebacker Zach Cunningham played 37 snaps for the Eagles. He made his presence felt in the run game, where he produced three defensive stops, tackling the ball carrier just 1.33 yards past the line of scrimmage on average.
Rookie spotlight: Quarterback Tanner McKee provided an instant spark to an Eagles offense that had stalled to a standstill with Marcus Mariota under center. The former Stanford star completed 10 of his 18 attempts for 147 yards and a touchdown to pull his team to within a point, and he racked up four big-time throws on first review.
Offensive line spotlight: The Browns quarterbacks had their work cut out for them tonight. In all, the Browns offensive line allowed one sack, two hits and 18 hurries across 50 passing plays.
